Here are the beginnings of a web site and blog for my studio. It is one page, but I hope it gives you everything you need for now. I’m trying to wean myself off of web development to have more time to teach music, which is what I love to do. Not sure that the weaning should start with my own site, but I can’t leave my clients in the lurch, so …. there you go.
I love music. I love playing music. I especially love playing music with others. And for others, if they desire to be entertained.
I love teaching music. I think music is a fabulous way to enjoy life. Everyone can learn to play music for themselves and for others. Learning to express ourselves musically is simple and enjoyable.
After leaving a job in Silicon Valley high tech in the spring of 2009, I opened a studio (from my home) where I could share my love of music by teaching people to play piano and accordion. I spent a summer studying the Suzuki method and passed an audition for the Suzuki Association of the Americas. I taught the Suzuki method to small children for a year.
This summer I trained and became certified in the Simply Music method of teaching piano. Suzuki and Simply Music are both fabulous ways to learn to play the piano–I won’t go into comparisions here, but feel free to ask me if you’re interested. Ultimately I’ve decided to focus my energies on Simply Music because
- it works wonderfully for adults as well as children
- students learn great sounding pieces with both hands from the first lessons
- pieces include contemporary, blues and classical
- students learn to play first, with reading coming about a year later
- students learn to accompany others and compose their own music as well
- it is fun!
